President of the Council on American-Saudi Dialogue Talks with Chicago Society Members
September 2005—On September 28, Chicago Society hosted Les Janka, who has served as a special aide to President Ronald Reagan and Dr. Henry Kissinger and is currently president of the Council on American-Saudi Dialogue, in an event titled “Tea, Biscotti, and Politics: A Conversation on the Future of Saudi-American relations.”
Mr. Janka described his vision of the future of United States foreign policy toward the Arab world and toward Saudi Arabia in particular, emphasizing America’s acute need for more diplomats well versed in the languages, cultures, and history of the Middle East. Mr. Janka also answered questions from the large group of assembled undergraduate and graduate students, some of whom spoke one-on-one with him after the question and answer period ended.
“Tea, Biscotti, and Politics” was another successful demonstration of Chicago Society’s aim to build ties between students, faculty, and experts on the world’s pressing issues.
