America Undressed: The “Naked Economics” of Domestic Issues
This event featured University of Chicago faculty members Charles Wheelan—author of the popular book Naked Economics: Undressing the Dismal Science—and economist Allen Sanderson. Professors Wheelan and Sanderson discussed the principal economic issues that affect Americans today, focusing on their relevancy to the upcoming United States presidential elections in 2008. The most salient issues according to Professor Wheelan ranged from immigration to social security to healthcare to the gasoline tax. Becoming something of a signature Chicago Society event, America Undressed follows up on the past two years’ highly successful events in the same vein, The World Undressed: The “Naked Economics” of Global Issues and College Life Undressed: The “Naked Economics” of Student Life. Students came out yet again to fill our venue for this discussion of economics in terms of the most pressing political issues of today.
